Guys, it's your moment to shine: The Proposal. You've been dating your sweet lady for however-long and you feel this is the best time to promise your eternal love. Of course, if you've been together for a while, she's probably expecting it to happen ANY TIME the two of your are together. (Okay, was that just me? Haha!)
Here are a few pointers to make the most of your once-in-a-lifetime proposal! Special thanks to my sweet husband for contributing to this list.
- Enlist help. Let's face it, you might not know where to start or how to make it happen, but I guarantee you've got friends and family that are chock full of great ideas. Find one or two trustworthy people in your circle and bounce ideas off of them. Don't involve too many people, especially if you've got a few loose lips in your family. ;)
- Don't go for flashy over substance. If we're honest, we know some people do extraordinary things to get the attention and approval of others. If you're doing something just to impress the people around you, and not your girlfriend, you're doing it for the wrong reason. Make sure you're thinking about the commitment of marriage while you're proposing. This is serious business! It would be better to propose to her, standing in the middle of an empty field and mean it, than to make some big show that marginalizes the poignancy and commitment of marriage. Of course, a big gesture can be just as genuine...maybe that's your thing!
- Know the person you're proposing to. Will your proposal be something she will enjoy, laugh about, talk about often, and dream about for the rest of her life? If you know your lady, which I'm sure you do, then you'll know how to make your proposal something she'll never forget!
- Hire someone to document your proposal. If your girlfriend likes taking pictures, which more than likely she does, have the event captured so the two of you can look back at it for years to come.
Here are a few fantastic proposals from the great video encyclopedia, YouTube:
...of course I had to include a Disney one ;)
I hope this has inspired you to put together a beautiful memory. Good luck!
