When I purchased my 2015 planner, I went through it and filled in all important dates. Those included events, birthdays, anniversaries...normal stuff. After doing that, I thought to myself, "Self, you're going to need a pep talk in a few months." Instead of just writing an inspirational quote in the margin of April-something, I wrote a note to myself in each month. For some reason, I must have thought, in that moment, that I would start to feel the weight of running a business. Yes. When I turned the page to the week of Feb 2nd, I had written "3 things I'm thankful for: 1____ 2_____ 3_____." Sterling from the middle of November 2014 KNEW that I would need to focus for a few minutes and declare 3 things that are a blessing to me.
So here are 3 things I am thankful for.
- The ability to think for myself. Do you realize how fortunate you are to live in this country? Cal and I watch a lot of documentaries on North Korea. It is heartbreaking to me, the control their people endure. Even though I don't always agree with our leadership, at least I have the RIGHT to speak out against it. Not there. This blog could not exist in a place like that. I know it's not always fair to compare our situation to that of others, but it does put things into perspective.
- My family. This applies to my blood family and my church family. To me, they are the same. In fact, I see my church family more than my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. Yes, it helps that I live a mile away from my church, but I'd be there regardless. Having people to love is one of life's greatest joys.
- My job. I haven't always been grateful for the jobs I've had. Some of them have made me physically ill. (I know that every opportunity is one to celebrate, especially when earning an income. It's just hard to see it when you're in it.) My current position was offered to me as a result of me starting my own business. How awesome is that?!
If you haven't taken some time to write down a few blessings in your life, I encourage you to do so. Don't wait until the holiday season to express gratitude.
