February Goals: Keep It Simple, Stupid

I mentioned this a few days ago, but January barely happened. Aside from booking a few weddings, I lost a lot of time. February is a great time to make up for it and get my to-dos accomplished!

Goals for February - This list is simple on purpose. I've given myself elaborate tasks in the past, but failed to see them through. This is me setting myself up for success.

  • Blog every single weekday. That's right! For this month only, I am vowing to blog Monday through Friday until March. After I decided that would be one of my goals, I remembered it was a leap year. One extra day of fun!
  • Book 3 more weddings. Obviously, I would LOVE to book about 6 more weddings to help me meet my goal for the year, but I'm trying to be realistic. A lot of fall brides have yet to make any concrete plans. In case you know anyone tying the knot soon, I have limited spots available in May, June, October, and November.
  • Organize and backup my docs. My gallery files on my computer are in terrible shape. This happens because I often receive images in large chunks and toss them somewhere "easy to find"...tale as old as time. I have photos EVERYWHERE on my Mac.
  • Read something that will help my business. I have a couple of books that have been sitting on my shelf for at least a year. The road to you-know-where is paved with books...isn't that the saying? Oh, good intentions? Yeah, I had those.

I'll check back up at the end of the month to see how things went. Organizing photos is next on my list for today, so I'll be taking care of that one asap. :)

My 2016 Wedding Wish List

Since we are in the mode of wishing and hoping for Santa to bring us goodies on Christmas morning, I wanted to take a minute to share my wedding dreams for the next year. A girl has to put things in writing so they becoming reality, isn't that what they say?

  1. I would LOVE to coordinate a beach wedding. (ps- I don't even like the beach all that much, but they are so beautiful.) Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, West Palm Beach...DOES NOT MATTER TO ME! ;)
  2. Something I've already done, but would love to do again, is an outdoor, mountain wedding. Those are my favorite! I love the green, lush forest that overlooks a valley. The sun peeks through the clouds and casts a perfect shadow on everything.
  3. A full floral design wedding! That's right, folks. Starting this season, I am offering floral design to select brides. In March, I'll be making tons of wreaths and garland at a beautiful Lynchburg venue. This sweet lady wants greenery everywhere, with a few white accents. My kind of girl! Bring on the flowers!
  4. A 250+ person wedding would certainly stretch me. I believe most wedding follow the same formula, though they differ in size, budget, and location. Of course, each bride and her tastes are different, but almost all weddings include the same basic elements. Having 110 people vs. 300 people mostly affects the caterer, but I am looking forward to the challenge.
  5. Ever since I saw THIS WEDDING on Green Wedding Shoes, I've been trying to come up with a good sales pitch to my brides to do a breakfast wedding. Haha! I'm basically obsessed with breakfast and coffee, so somebody, let's make this happen!

Maybe I'll knock a few of these off my list this year. Or if I have to wait until another season, it'll be worth it. I had about 3 more items for this list, but would hate to appear greedy. haha!

Bring it on, 2016!

I've started to think about where I want to take my business. When you write things down, you are more likely to do them. When you write things down for an infinite number of people to read, you'd better do them! Perhaps my goals will change, or maybe I'll accomplish all of them. For now, here they are...

  1. Befriend ALL the vendors! I've been reading wedding blogs for several years, and I consider a great number of those people my friends. What's funny is, we've never even met. They don't even know who I am. But I love them. Who are they? Not telling. It's like a middle school girl having a crush on the cutest boy at school...let me at least make it out of 7th grade before making my confession!
  2. Weddings! Let me help you plan your wedding!
  3. Attend a conference. Currently, I'm dreaming about the Creative at Heart conference in January. Anyone interested in sponsoring me? ;) But seriously, industry conferences are a great way to network and learn. I want to grow as an individual AND as a business owner. Hint: Some of the people I mentioned in #1 are speaking at that conference. Just saying...
  4. Speak at a conference. Whoa...yep. One day.
  5. Be able to hire a helping hand. I'd love to grow so much that I need a sidekick. We'll be like Batman and Robin.
  6. Destination Wedding! C'mon, let me travel! I'll go anywhere that isn't freezing.
  7. Disney Wedding! While this might fall under the previous goal, Disney holds a lot of weight in my life; therefore, it gets its own category. My friend Melissa had her wedding at Walt Disney World and golly, I was blown away by her pictures. I've been there when girls in gowns walk by...yeah, not jealous at all. I know Disney has planners and coordinators of their own, but I would settle for the title of cleaner-upper.

So there they are. Not a conclusive list, but one that will definitely keep me busy in the now and future.
