When I tell people that I want to get into event planning, I usually get one of two responses. Some have said, "You will be PERFECT for that kind of business!" A small handful of others have looked at me with pity in their eyes. Don't worry, I majored in Acting, I've seen that look before. Haha!
Weddings are beautiful and memorable, but they can also be extremely overwhelming! My own wedding is one of the main reasons I decided to get into this industry. For years, I thought about my wedding and what it would look like, but I didn't know how to organize my vision. I went through several color palettes and themes before deciding on a green and blue garden party. I had no clue what type of dress to pick. Even though I didn't have all the details figured out, I started off so invested in our wedding.
Cal proposed to me on January 2nd. We were married on April 25th. In that short time, I became completely disenchanted with my own wedding. I just wanted to be Cal's wife. When my mom or my wedding coordinator asked for my opinion, my response was, "I don't care, just pick something." To a certain degree, this is normal. A lot of brides get fed up with the planning, waiting, questions, pressure, they start to shut down. My goal in this business is to help brides CARE and to tell them, "Please, just hold on a little longer, it will all be worth it." Fortunately, my mom and wedding coordinator were on point, and my day was wonderful. Because I lost interest, there are many things I would change about our wedding day. That will be saved for another post, another day.
So why am I doing this? To inspire brides. To help them avoid the feeling that I've had, that I wish I could do it over again...definitely to the same wonderful man! ;) Do I believe the marriage is about more than just the wedding day? ABSOLUTELY! That doesn't mean the wedding day can't be fun, well-planned, and meaningful! You only get one, right? So make the most of it!
I thought I'd include a few moments from our wedding. Enjoy!
